Hydrogen Week 2026 marks critical year for hydrogen delivery
Hydrogen Week UK will return in 2026 as the country’s only nationwide initiative dedicated to championing the role of hydrogen in the clean energy transition. The flagship campaign bringing together industry leaders, policymakers and academia will span the breadth of the UK through a diverse programme of events.
Taking place the week commencing Monday 18 May 2026, the event will build on the momentum of previous years, highlighting the collaboration, innovation and progress shaping the UK’s hydrogen sector.
This year’s event comes at a crucial moment for the sector. With the first UK hydrogen projects beginning to take Final Investment Decisions and £20bn of additional investment ready to go, the industry is entering a defining period of growth. Following a period of consolidation, 2026 is expected to bring a flurry of activity—from the selection of the first regional network and storage site, HAR3 opening for applications and the continued progression of major projects across the country.
Hydrogen Week is spearheaded by the North West Hydrogen Alliance (NWHA) and supported by leading hydrogen hubs and organisations across the UK. Each year hundreds of organisations take part spanning the country from Aberdeen to Bristol. Over the past four years, Hydrogen Week has delivered a wide-ranging programme of activities and 2026 is set to be no exception. From high-profile conferences, panel discussions and exhibitions, to podcasts, reports, educational outreach and hands-on demonstrations, the week has showcased hydrogen’s potential in a variety of dynamic and creative ways.
The week will also include the annual ‘Delivering the Hydrogen Economy Event’ taking place in Liverpool, more details to follow.
Dave Richardson, Chair of the North West Hydrogen Alliance, said:
“Hydrogen Week marks its fourth year at a pivotal moment for the UK’s energy transition. In the last year we have seen sustained government support for the industry as projects begin to move into delivery and investment gathers pace. Ahead of the Hydrogen Strategy Refresh we’re keen demonstrate how the sector can not only significantly contribute to the UK’s net-zero ambitions but also to transform industries and infrastructure.
“Each year, the level of participation and the quality of discussion across Hydrogen Week continues to grow. That progression reflects a sector that is maturing, one that is increasingly focused on practical delivery, collaboration and long-term value for the UK. The momentum building across the country shows that hydrogen is no longer a distant concept but a vital part of our future energy landscape.”
Clare Jackson, Chief Executive, Hydrogen UK said:
“It’s great to see Hydrogen Week going ahead for the fourth consecutive year. It’s a great opportunity to highlight the important role that hydrogen can play in decarbonising our energy system as well as delivering economic growth. 2026 will be a critical year for hydrogen, with the first projects taking final investment decisions and moving into construction and operation, as well as key decisions on transport and storage and hydrogen to power. Hydrogen Week will be a great opportunity to deliver collaboration and constructive discussion within the industry on overcoming challenges and seizing opportunities.”
