ESB and Progressive Energy Join Forces to Drive Hydrogen-to-Power Projects in the UK
ESB has signed a co-development agreement with Progressive Energy (PEL) to deliver dispatchable hydrogen-to-power (H2P) generation projects in the UK. This partnership marks a significant step towards decarbonising the power sector and supporting the UK Government’s Clean Power 2030 objectives.
As the UK transitions to a low-carbon energy system, H2P will play a crucial role in providing reliable, low-carbon power during periods of low wind and solar generation. This enhances grid stability and strengthens the country’s energy security, ensuring a more resilient and sustainable electricity supply.
The collaboration between ESB and PEL brings together a wealth of expertise. ESB, with its long-standing experience in operating and funding major thermal generation assets, complements PEL’s proven track record in developing and delivering hydrogen projects. Together, they aim to accelerate the deployment of hydrogen-powered generation, supporting the UK’s journey towards net zero.
