A Greener Future at Riverside College
This year Hydrogen Week is providing Riverside College with the opportunity to celebrate its commitment to sustainability, technological advancement, and industry collaboration with the launch of the new Hydrogen Training Centre and the creation of four new green energy qualifications.
Thanks to the support from the Department of Education’s Strategic Development Fund, Riverside College has embarked on a transformative journey into the world of hydrogen technology. This journey has led to the establishment of a bespoke Hydrogen Training Centre, a hub for training and upskilling local people to meet the needs of the Liverpool City Region. This new centre serves as a testament to the college’s dedication to fostering knowledge and expertise in sustainable energy solutions.
One of the key objectives of the Hydrogen Project was to upskill the existing staff, equipping them with the knowledge and tools necessary to lead the way in hydrogen technology education. Through targeted training programs and professional development opportunities, Riverside College has empowered its faculty to deliver high-quality education in this rapidly evolving field.
This has been made possible by the collaboration with industry leaders to ensure that its curriculum and training facilities align with the market’s needs. Companies such as Cadent, United Living, Intergen, Jet, and various local advanced manufacturing firms have played a pivotal role in shaping the college’s Hydrogen Project. Their expertise and support have been instrumental in designing the curriculum and facilities to meet the demands of the industry.
The collaboration with industry partners has also resulted in the creation of four new qualifications tailored to meet the specific needs of employers in the hydrogen sector. By co-developing these practical qualifications with employers, Riverside College ensures that its students are well-equipped to make meaningful contributions to industry from day one. This hands-on approach to education ensures that students graduate with practical experience and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the hydrogen sector.
As Riverside College celebrates Hydrogen Week 2024, it not only reflects on its achievements but also looks forward to the future with optimism and determination. Through this project, the college expanded its educational offerings and cemented its commitment to sustainable technology education. By nurturing partnerships with industry leaders and empowering its students and staff, Riverside College is paving the way for a brighter, greener future.
