Cadent: Hydrogen Week 2024 Blog
By Helen Boyle, Head of Regional Development North West & West Midlands, for Cadent.
It’s fantastic to be able to welcome another annual Hydrogen Week, at such an exciting time in the development and delivery of innovations and projects for the future energy sector.
Here at Cadent, we have a broad spectrum of hydrogen projects underway; from blending to 100% hydrogen. At the end of 2023, the UK government made some really important announcements for hydrogen production and storage. They also announced a positive policy decision for hydrogen blending – this is after the important work that has been completed by our HyDeploy project.
These announcements and decisions are helping to drive forward our flagship project HyNet North West and provide support for other key projects, including the Hydrogen Valley, East Coast Hydrogen, East Midlands Hydrogen and Capital Hydrogen to name a few.
These crucial hydrogen projects are assessing and figuring out how the gas industry can meet the Government target of 10GW of low carbon hydrogen production capacity by 2030. Safeguarding and generating jobs and employment and improving resilience and energy security for everyone.
Low carbon hydrogen will provide cleaner energy to power our economy and our everyday lives – from the bricks, steel, and glass we need to build new homes and buildings, to fuelling the factories that make the bread, cakes, crisps, detergents, or toiletries that we use.
We know low carbon hydrogen will be essential to achieving the UK’s net zero targets and will benefit people across the country with the job and investment opportunities. Cadent, will continue to keep the gas flowing, as we switch to greener, cleaner low carbon fuels and we remain committed to keeping people warm whilst protecting the planet.
